Journeys of Faith

Strokkur Geyser
Strokkur Geyser

I recently had the good fortune to visit Iceland for one day, en route to America for a holiday with my partner. It’s a stunningly beautiful landscape.

I wanted to share some pictures of Iceland (although they don’t really do it justice!!). It’s really worth a visit! In the short period of time we spent there, we saw the most diverse landscape. It is literally living and breathing.

We had just experienced a close family bereavement and found this wild and unpredictable landscape of Iceland very emotive. It reminded me that the endpoint is not nearly as important as the journey itself, and if one thing in life is constant, for us and for the land, it’s the inescapable notion of change and renewal.

In Reykjavik airport, this poem is inscribed on the wall:

petur gunnarsson poem

‘on earth’s part
all days start beautifully
patiently it revolves and revolves
with its trees
and oceans and lakes
deserts and volcanoes
the two of us and the rest of you
and all the animals’
