Help Yourself Grow- Gardening

Established in February 2012, Help Yourself Grow – Gardening (HYG-G) is a multi-award winning experience devised and operated by Fair Deal and developed and delivered in partnership with The Hidden Gardens. The Hidden Gardens deliver the training in gardening skills and offer learning opportunities for young people and adults with a learning disability, who are supported by Fair Deal.

Each Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday a group meets at The Jeeley Piece Club Community Garden where core gardening skills such as propagation, composting, seed sowing, mulching and weeding are taught and practiced. Additional activities such as arts and crafts, building bird boxes, making herb planters, carpentry, making soup with the vegetables they have grown are also enjoyed by the group.

Fair Deal is recruiting for the next intake of HYG – Gardening starting in mid-July 2019. If you, or anyone you know, is interested please contact Fair Deal.

The young people who have joined Help Yourself Grow over the years have expressed an interest in developing their gardening skills and sharing their knowledge with the group and the wider community. They work towards the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society (RCHS) Grow & Learn Awards.
