this FREE training with Dr Miranda Bane to learn how to support the UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme. It’s easy, fun and gives you a great way to grow a deep connection with local nature. The session is from 6pm – 8pm on the NEW DATE 20th August 6pm-8pm in The Hidden Gardens.
The FIT (Flower-Insect Timed) count is a survey method used by the UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme (PoMS) to monitor the abundance of flower-visiting insects. The FIT count is designed to be simple and accessible for volunteers.
At this training session at you’ll learn:
- What Pollinators Are: Discover what pollinators are and why they are so important for our environment.
- How to Spot Different Insects: Get tips on how to identify various insects, this will include an introduction to the international surveying citizen science project iNaturalist.
- How to Do a FIT Count: Learn how to count and record insects visiting flowers using a simple method called the Flower-Insect Timed (FIT) count.
- Why Monitoring Matters: Understand why tracking the number of insects is crucial for helping scientists protect these essential creatures.
- Hands-On Practice: Spend time in the beautiful gardens practicing what you’ve learned with guidance from experts.
