Medicinal Courtyard project

Posted: Thu 1 Feb

With the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, we are bringing together local volunteers, organisations and experts to transform our courtyard over a period of six months, starting in March 2018.

The new medicinal courtyard will be home to a collection of useful herbs reflecting the cultures of our local community. It will include herbs used in the past that may have fallen out of use. It will also include herbs used by our diverse local community today. The medicinal courtyard will enhance the plant heritage at The Hidden Gardens for current and future generations.

The medicinal courtyard echos the original ethos of The Hidden Gardens when it opened in 2003 – effectively a greenspace and community resource that reflects the diversity of the local population through its planting philosophy.

Input from the local community will be at the heart of the project. Their input will inform our plant selection and design. Through 8 workshops we’ll inspire people to share stories about their knowledge of herbs, and their meaning and uses, to create a unique native and exotic plant collection.
